Russian Poker Series Moves First Stage to Kyiv

PokerStars announced on April 28 that the first stage of the Russian Poker Series (RPS) would be moved from Almaty, Kazakhstan, to Kyiv, Ukraine. The decision was made due to safety concerns and the inability to guarantee the security of players in Almaty.

The tournament will take place from May 31 to June 7, 2010, at the 'Kreschatik' sports poker club in Kyiv. The club, located at 14 Kreschatik Street, is the largest poker club in Ukraine, with a gaming hall that can accommodate up to 40 poker tables.

The entry fee for the tournament is $3,000, with a guaranteed prize pool of $400,000. The structure and schedule of the tournaments will remain unchanged, and online qualifying satellites will not be canceled. Additionally, the duration of international satellites will be extended due to the ease of travel to Ukraine for Europeans.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
