Russian Poker Players Shine at 2011 WSOP: Key Moments and Achievements

In 2011, a significant group of Russian poker players participated in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, thanks to the support of the IC Fund, led by Andrei Zaichenko. The IC Fund played a crucial role in enabling these players to compete at the prestigious event.

Among the standout achievements, Vyacheslav 'Amke' Zhukov won the championship in Omaha Hi-Lo. Other notable performances included Rafael Kibrit finishing second in the PLO $1,500 event, and Stephen Merryfield placing third in the PLO $5,000 event and sixth in the NLHE $1,500 event. Mikhail Savinov also had a strong showing, finishing sixth in the Stud Hi-Lo Championship.

Alexander Gnatenko stood out with his impressive performances in tournaments held outside the Rio. Andrei Zaichenko, who played independently from the fund due to ethical considerations, also had a successful run, placing third in the HORSE Championship and fifth in the $2,500 Limit Hold'em event.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
