Russian Poker Players Face Deposit and Withdrawal Challenges in 2021
Russian poker players are facing significant challenges in making deposits and withdrawals due to regulatory restrictions. The situation has been worsening since December 2020, with major payment systems either stopping or limiting their services.
Payment System Restrictions
QIWI, one of the most popular payment services, was fined 11 million rubles by the Central Bank and stopped working with gambling sites. YooMoney (formerly Yandex.Money) was forced to stop transfers from individuals to foreign companies for six months. WebMoney, another major Russian payment system, stopped working with most poker rooms in mid-March.
Alternatives and Their Challenges
PokerStars.Sochi added deposits via MIR cards, and PokerDom supports direct cashouts to Visa and MasterCard with a 3% commission. However, these alternatives come with their own set of problems. Skrill and Neteller, popular among poker players, require additional identity and source of funds verification. Pavel Veksler's Neteller account was frozen for 70 days due to these requirements.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
