PokerStars Announces Rake Increases and Returns to US Market

PokerStars has announced several changes to its rake structure, effective from March 2016. The rake in Spin & Go tournaments for buy-ins from $1 to $30 has been increased by one percentage point, and for $3 buy-ins by two percentage points. Additionally, rake will be taken from rebuys and add-ons in multi-table tournaments, similar to the rake on the buy-in. The rake in Hyper-Turbo MTTs will be increased to 5%.

PokerStars has also returned to the US market after nearly five years, offering games to players in New Jersey. However, due to US legislation, PokerStars users in New Jersey can only play against each other. The platform's return coincides with the announcement of the final schedule for the SCOOP 2016 tournament series, which includes new formats like Deep Payouts and Mixed Omaha.

In other news, new players on TonyBet Poker can receive a €5,000 tournament ticket by depositing with the code STARTER. Additionally, Alibaba and the International Federation of Poker (IFP) are working to introduce a new poker format called Match Poker in China, aiming for 2 million players by 2021.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
