PokerStars Dominates MTT Traffic in May 2016, Brazil Leads in Tournament Entries
In May 2016, PokerStars dominated the MTT traffic, capturing 71.5% of the market, a significant increase from the usual 64%. This surge was largely attributed to the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) series, which contributed to a substantial portion of the overall rake. The SCOOP series alone generated a rake of $5.2 million, accounting for 27.4% of the total MTT rake for the month.
Party Poker also saw an increase in its MTT traffic share, rising from 5.46% to 6.17%. This growth allowed Party Poker to overtake 888poker in MTT traffic, securing the second position, especially in high-stakes games ($100+). Other networks showing significant growth included WPN and Winamax.
Brazil led the way in the number of tournament entries, with nearly two million registrations. This high volume of entries gave Brazil a significant edge in the MTT landscape. Russia, however, maintained its lead in the number of unique players, outpacing its nearest competitors, Germany, by 30%. Despite this, the overall traffic leadership may have shifted to Brazil, as each Brazilian player on average participated in 1.5 times more tournaments than their Russian counterparts.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
