PokerStars and Other Poker Rooms Exit Russia Amidst Payment System Changes

PokerStars suspended operations in Russia on March 10, 2022. The company initially removed tournaments, then closed registrations for Sit & Go's, and finally stopped opening cash tables. PokerStars assured users that their funds are safe and stored on separate accounts, but transfers are currently unavailable.

On March 18, 2022, PokerStars resumed cashouts through WebMoney. Users who had made deposits with WebMoney in the past year could withdraw their funds, with a limit of one cashout per day. However, funds cannot be transferred to cards of Russian banks, but WMZ can be exchanged on exchanges.

On March 24, 2022, PokerStars resumed cashouts through Skrill, Neteller, and MuchBetter. Users who had made deposits with these payment systems in the past year could withdraw their funds. GG Network suspended services in Russia on March 11, 2022, but players can still access their funds and continue playing in the PokerOK room with a new logo. Transfers to other players are limited to $300 per day.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
