Poker Pros Face Off Against AI in High-Stakes Rematch
In 2015, Bjorn Li, Douglas Polk, Dong Kim, and Jason Les won 732,713 chips against the bot Claudico in a heads-up match, but the winrate of 9.16bb/100 fell short of the 10.35bb/100 required for an official victory.
The rematch between human players and the new bot Libratus began on January 11, 2017, at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, with a distance of 120,000 hands. The human players include Jason Les, Dong Kim, Daniel "dougiedan678" McAulay, and Jimmy "ForTheSwaRMm" Chou. The new bot, Libratus, was created by a group of programmers from Carnegie Mellon University led by Professor Tuomas Sandholm.
The match is being streamed on Twitch, with channels dedicated to each pair of players. After an error in inputting a random number, 350 hands were annulled, with Jason Les winning around 28k and Dong Kim winning around 30k on that distance. The Aussie Millions poker series began without PokerStars' support, but high roller tournaments remain, including those with buy-ins of $25,000, $100,000, and $250,000.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
