Poker Pro Learns Not to Judge Players by Their Skills

Mikka Anttonen, a renowned poker player, shared a story on Twitter about judging people based on their poker skills. Anttonen realized that judging people by their poker skills can be misleading after meeting a leading NASA astrophysicist who played poorly in poker. The astrophysicist explained that he played poorly in poker to relieve stress from his high-pressure job.

Anttonen had a habit of judging people based on their poker skills, often assuming that poor players were not intelligent. He recounted a story from a 2013 tournament in Las Vegas where he encountered a player who exhibited erratic and seemingly poor poker strategies. Despite the player's poor performance, he had accumulated a large stack of chips due to a few lucky hands.

During a lunch break, Anttonen sat with the same player, who revealed that he played poorly in poker as a way to relieve stress from his demanding job as a leading astrophysicist at NASA. This encounter taught Anttonen a valuable lesson about not judging people based on their poker skills, as it can lead to incorrect assumptions about their intelligence and capabilities.
