Poker Pro Shares Insights on Career, Losses, and Future of the Game

A professional poker player recently shared insights into his career, significant financial losses, and his views on the future of poker. The player revealed that he lost around $6 million in cryptocurrency and stocks in the previous year.

Reflecting on his poker journey, the player mentioned that he won an award in 2008 for being the worst player in micro-limits. He also discussed his approach to improving poker skills, advising players to find those in similar situations and discuss hands with them. He noted that while poker is a good way to go from 0 to $1 million, further growth requires immense luck or finding a unique game.

The player also shared his thoughts on the state of online poker, stating that he does not consider it a viable business option due to the high entry barrier and the need for excellent software. He recommended books from the 2+2 publishing house, which he credited with helping him develop a general understanding of poker. Additionally, he mentioned winning the One Drop tournament in 2017, where he doubled up against and eventually won the tournament.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
