Poker Player Arrested Mid-Tournament, Other Shocking News

In the world of poker, recent events have kept players and fans on their toes. Bertran Grospellier, known as Elky, began streaming his games, with announcements available on his Twitter account. This move has allowed fans to follow his gameplay closely.

David Sklansky, the renowned author of 'The Theory of Poker,' occasionally streams on the official channel of the site, adding to the excitement for poker enthusiasts. However, not all streaming experiences have been positive. Charlie 'Epiphany77' Carrel had $1,000 stolen from his account during a live stream when a viewer gained access through TeamViewer. The incident was captured live, with the hacker even communicating with the chat. Fortunately, PokerStars returned the stolen money to Carrel, and he went on to win the Sunday 500 tournament shortly after.

Another significant development is the restoration of PokerStars player statistics on PokerTableRatings (PTR). The service confirmed that the statistics will be available permanently, much to the relief of players who rely on this data. Additionally, the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic in Canada saw several controversies. Players were not allowed to use headphones or phones, even during breaks, which was unusual. Furthermore, the $1,100 tournament had a limit on the number of players, leading to a black market for tickets. The most shocking event, however, was the arrest of Harnam Mataru, the chip leader, during the final table. Mataru was taken away in handcuffs, leaving his chips in play. It was later revealed that he had been arrested for a robbery that occurred during the WPT Montreal in November 2014.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
