Phil Hellmuth Triumphs Over Scott Seiver in Epic High Stakes Duel III
Phil Hellmuth emerged victorious in High Stakes Duel III, securing his ninth win out of ten matches against Scott Seiver. The intense battle, which lasted over 300 hands of heads-up poker, saw the lead change hands more than 20 times. Hellmuth's victory netted him $800,000.
Scott Seiver, who replaced Tom Dwan as a late substitute, put up a formidable challenge. Despite the intense competition, Hellmuth managed to grind his way back into the match, showcasing his resilience and skill. One of the most significant hands saw Seiver with Q♥ Q♦ against Hellmuth's J♣ J♠. The flop was 3♠ 6♣ 4♥, the turn 7♠, and the river 9♦, allowing Seiver to double up and take the lead.
Hellmuth, however, did not give up easily. In another crucial hand, Seiver held 10♦ 6♥ against Hellmuth's 3♠ 2♥. The flop came 2♠ 10♣ 3♠, and Hellmuth check-raised Seiver, who then called the shove. The turn was Q♠ and the river 5♠, securing Hellmuth's victory. Reflecting on the match, Hellmuth praised Seiver, stating, “Scott absolutely did not give it to me. He was just tough, and that’s what I was expecting. He’s one of the greatest players in the world and also one of the best of his generation.”

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
