Phil Hellmuth vs. Phil Ivey: Who's the GOAT in No Limit Hold'em?
A recent Twitter poll by Allen Kessler has reignited the debate on who the greatest No Limit Hold'em player is between Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey. The poll, which included a video clip from 'Poker After Dark,' featured an exchange between Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu.
In the clip, Hellmuth questions his skills compared to Ivey, asking, 'I'm not better at Texas Hold'em than Phil Ivey?' Negreanu firmly states that Ivey would 'wipe the floor' with Hellmuth in most scenarios. 'You're not better than Phil Ivey at literally, f***ing anything, except promoting yourself,' Negreanu said.
The results of the poll, with 6,941 votes, showed that 88.2% believe Ivey tops Hellmuth in No Limit Hold'em. Hellmuth, known as the Poker Brat, has expressed his desire to be considered the greatest, citing his past accomplishments and bracelet wins. However, Negreanu argues that today's top players are regularly found in high roller tournaments, which Hellmuth has only dabbled in.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
