Phil Galfond Shares Top Poker Psychology Tips from His Mentors

Phil Galfond, a renowned poker player, has shared some of the best poker psychology tips he has learned from his mentors, Tommy Angelo and Elliot Roe. Galfond has worked with both mentors, each offering unique insights into the psychological aspects of poker.

Tommy Angelo, known for his professional approach to poker, teaches a zen-like calm and detachment from the game's outcomes. His advice includes stopping play when feeling unhappy, as this negatively impacts both the game and overall well-being. Galfond emphasizes that happiness is more important than poker results, and taking breaks when needed can lead to better performance in the long run.

Elliot Roe, a practicing psychologist and hypnotherapist, provides specific advice tailored to current client issues. One of his exercises involves writing down areas of life where one wants to improve and addressing fears about these areas. This method has helped Galfond overcome his reluctance to work with solvers, a tool he initially found intimidating. By confronting his fears, Galfond was able to return to high-level play and even created the Galfond Challenge, showcasing his improved skills.
