Phil Galfond Reflects on Career Highs, Lows, and Poker Philosophy

Phil Galfond, a renowned poker player, recently shared his thoughts on his career, highlighting both memorable and regrettable moments. One of the most significant episodes in his career was a missed opportunity to win a WSOP bracelet. Galfond recounted a hand where he failed to push through with a bluff against Steven Chidwick, which could have secured him the bracelet. This mistake has haunted him, serving as a constant reminder of his shortcomings.

Galfond's friendship with fellow poker pro Tom Dwan is another notable aspect of his career. Their bond began long before they started playing at the same tables, facilitated by their mutual friend David Benfield. Dwan's influence on Galfond's game has been profound, offering him valuable insights and support.

When asked about his approach to improving his game, Galfond emphasized the importance of understanding one's personal strengths and weaknesses. He prefers analyzing and discussing his decisions rather than using tools like an equilator. Galfond also expressed his admiration for Ben Tollerene, noting his exceptional work ethic and self-criticism. Additionally, Galfond enjoys playing 2-7 Triple Draw but focuses on games he plays regularly online.
