Phil Galfond and Other Poker Pros Targeted in Identity Theft Scam
Phil Galfond is the latest high-profile player to be targeted by fraudsters in an ongoing identity theft scam. Galfond tweeted that the day before he closed his account, the fraudsters successfully created a BetMGM account in his name and deposited $2,000. BetMGM contacted him and have already reimbursed him. He also received a password reset email from Stardust Casino due to failed login attempts.
Kathy Liebert and Chance Kornuth were also recent victims in this wave of thefts. Liebert said she had deposits to her account for winnings but it wasn’t her account. A bank account in her name was opened to collect winnings from BetMGM and was also added to her WSOP.com account, which has now been removed. Kornuth tweeted that two new BetMGM accounts had been opened in his name.
Todd Witteles was also hit for a $10K sum and has been actively investigating the scam. He has spent hours putting together all the stories with regular announcements. DraftKings stated that it would make whole any customer that was impacted. FanDuel reminded customers about the importance of good cybersecurity hygiene.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
