Understanding the Phases of a Multi-Table Tournament (MTT)
The MTT Project group published an article identifying the phases of a Multi-Table Tournament (MTT).
The Phases of a MTT
The phases of a MTT are: Tranquila, Peligrosa, and Mesa Final.
The Tranquila phase begins at the start of the tournament until the prize bubble approaches and after entering the prize zone until the final table. The Peligrosa phase includes the prize bubble and the final table bubble. The Mesa Final phase is also known as the End Game.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
