Peter Thai Wins First Bracelet of 2023 World Series of Poker
Peter Thai, a table games dealer at Parkwest 508 casino in Livermore, California, won the first bracelet of the 2023 World Series of Poker. Thai secured the victory in the Casino Employees event, earning $75,535. The event attracted 1015 entrants and featured a prizepool of $426,300.
Thai's journey to the top was marked by several key hands. He eliminated Bruce Jiang with a strong double KO, and in the heads-up round, he faced off against PokerNews reporter James Urbanic, whom he also defeated. Thai's strategic plays and cool demeanor under pressure were instrumental in his victory.
Reflecting on his win, Thai expressed his surprise and joy. “I never expected to win. I came here just wanting to have fun and one thing led to another. It was an unforgettable experience,” he said. Thai, an avid poker player, revealed that he prefers cash games over tournaments but has extensive tournament experience from his college days playing online sit and gos.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
