Owen 'PR0DIGY' Messere on His Championship Win and the Future of Poker

Owen 'PR0DIGY' Messere recently won a poker championship and shared his thoughts on the state of competitive poker. Messere mentioned that the sporting aspect of poker has diminished, and streaming platforms like Hustler are partly to blame. He believes that CoinPoker successfully showcased high-level poker as a spectator sport, with top players discussing hands and even showing off their skills.

Messere is looking forward to more intense battles with top players. He took a two-week break after the championship and felt out of form upon returning, mentioning that he is not used to taking such long breaks from poker. His win rate during the championship was around 14bb/100, and he believes that high win rates are achievable in regvars if players understand the depth of poker.

Messere also discussed the challenges of maintaining a high win rate in regvars, noting that players often overlook the potential for large edges. He mentioned that he does not select compositions during challenges, focusing only on his own state. Messere's insights provide a fascinating look into the mind of a top poker player and the strategies they employ to stay ahead of the competition.
