Online Poker Market to Hit $237.5 Billion by 2030
The online poker market has seen significant growth and is projected to reach a staggering $237.5 billion by 2030. According to a report by Zion Market Research, the market was valued at around $86.2 billion in 2022.
The online poker market began with the launch of Planet Poker in 1998, but it was Chris Moneymaker's victory in the 2003 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event that truly sparked the industry's boom. Moneymaker, an amateur player, won his seat through an online satellite and took home $2.5 million, inspiring many to try their luck at online poker.
Technological advancements have played a crucial role in the market's growth. The use of mobile devices has made online poker more accessible, allowing players to enjoy games on the go. Additionally, advancements in payment methods, including digital currencies, credit cards, and e-wallets, have made transactions faster, secure, and convenient. Artificial intelligence (AI) is also enhancing the gaming experience by providing personalized recommendations, analyzing player behavior, and detecting fraud.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
