Online Poker Booms in Europe Amid Coronavirus Epidemic
The coronavirus epidemic has led to a boom in online poker in Europe. The epidemic has caused many live poker series to be canceled, and people are spending more time at home, contributing to the surge in online poker players. The number of players in tournaments has significantly increased, and many sports bettors have turned to poker as other betting options are unavailable.
PokerStars saw a 10% increase in traffic in Spain, France, and Portugal. The Sunday Million event on PokerStars had 13,579 entries, the highest in 14 months. This trend is expected to continue as the end of lockdowns in European countries remains uncertain.
Poker rooms have noticed the increased activity and are taking steps to attract more players. The MPN network increased guarantees despite its closure in May. PartyPoker added three more weeks of additional events to their PowerFest schedule. Unibet Poker introduced a new rebuy event, Nebulus, with a $10,000 guarantee.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
