NFL Declines Supplemental Draft, Leaving Texas Tech QB Sorsby in Limbo
The NFL has announced that it will not hold a supplemental draft this year, a decision that significantly impacts Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby. Sorsby, who was the only player to apply for the supplemental draft, will now have to wait until next year’s NFL draft to potentially enter the league.
Sorsby's journey has been marked by controversy. He admitted to making thousands of bets while at Indiana University, including at least 40 on his own team. In May, he announced that he was entering treatment for gambling addiction. Despite these challenges, Sorsby transferred to Texas Tech for the upcoming season. However, the NCAA ruled him ineligible for violating gambling rules, complicating his path to professional football.
Sorsby’s attorney, Jeffrey Kessler, has vowed to appeal the NFL’s ruling to the NFL Players Association (NFLPA). Kessler argues that the NFL’s decision is a violation of the league’s collective bargaining agreement. The appeal, however, faces an uphill battle, as the NFL is not required to hold a supplemental draft and hasn’t done so in three years.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
