NCPG Addresses Controversy Over Prediction Markets, Stands Firm on Harm Reduction
The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has issued a new statement on its involvement with prediction markets. The organization has accepted a donation from Kalshi, a prominent prediction market platform, to fund responsible gambling and research into gambling-related harm.
Michigan and Ohio have left the NCPG, accusing the organization of breaching its commitment to responsible play and protecting consumers from bad gambling practices. NCPG Board President Derek Longmeier stated that prediction markets are functionally gambling and can expose consumers to many of the same risks and harms associated with traditional gambling.
The NCPG's main mission remains unchanged, focusing on helping people experiencing financial, emotional, and relationship consequences as a result of prediction markets. The NCPG has always been fully accountable for the donation it has received and that it was impartial in its decision regarding the donation received by Kalshi.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
