Mike 'The Mouth' Matusow Invests in Dallas Poker Room Amid Legal Uncertainty
Mike 'The Mouth' Matusow, a renowned poker player with four WSOP bracelets, has invested in the Poker House Dallas. This move comes at a time when the legal status of poker in Texas is uncertain. The Texas Card House in Dallas is facing potential closure due to a citywide crackdown on gambling.
The Texas Card House's Certificate of Occupancy was revoked amid claims of breaching state laws. Ryan Crow, the CEO of the Texas Card House, had spent hundreds of hours with lawyers and city officials to ensure compliance with the law. Despite these efforts, the cardroom is still open while they appeal the decision. Omar Narvaez, a local councilman, expressed dismay at the revocation, stating that it was unfair and sudden.
Poker in Texas operates in a legal grey area, with most cardrooms working on a membership and/or table fee basis rather than the traditional house rake approach. This is because charging rake is illegal in the state. Houston, where other poker investments have been made, has been relatively problem-free since 2019. However, Dallas seems to be facing more challenges with its poker scene.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
