Michigan Targets 33 Offshore Gambling Websites for Operating Illegally
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has issued 33 cease-and-desist letters to offshore gambling websites operating without the required permits in the state. The regulator argues that these sites fail to uphold state laws, operate without a license, and are a danger to consumers.
The MGCB sent letters to operators who did not comply with the state’s Internet Gaming and Sports Betting Responsible Gaming Database. MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams stated that offshore sites do not respect self-exclusion requests and consumers have no way to get their deposits back.
The MGCB explained that players who connected with offshore websites had no access to self-exclusion, deposit limits, and other responsible gaming tools that licensed operators are required by law to support. Companies operating games of chance in Michigan must be licensed under the Lawful Internet Gaming Act and the Lawful Sports Betting Act. The latest move follows a similar enforcement action taken by the MGCB in April 2026, when the regulator targeted 45 websites.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
