MicahJ's Epic Win: Defeating NEKOTYAN and Climbing the Poker Ranks

MicahJ, a promising American poker player, has increased his bankroll on Full Tilt by $580,000 over 1.5 months. His main victim was NEKOTYAN, a well-known Russian player. MicahJ is believed to be 23-year-old Mike Smith from West Palm Beach, Florida. His main specialty is heads-up pot-limit Omaha on FullTilt. He played limits from $1/$2 to $300/$600, but spent most of his time on $10/$20 and $25/$50. In January-February 2010, MicahJ won around $40,000. In March, he caught a wave of luck. On April 13, 2010, he had a stunning rise, ending the day with a plus of $303,912. His main sponsor was NEKOTYAN, who lost $310,228 in a $100/$200 PLO game over 931 hands. During this session, the opponents played another 247 hands at the $50/$100 limit, and there NEKOTYAN managed to return $16,635.

NEKOTYAN lost the title of the best player in the world (Top Hat) according to PokerTableRatings. Moreover, according to this site, April 13 was the worst day in the online career of the Russian. Meanwhile, this success brought MicahJ to 14th place in the list of the most profitable high-limit players of 2010. MicahJ does not shy away from MTT either. He came to online poker as an 18-year-old student, started with small SnG and MTT limits, but quickly moved on to larger tournaments. His best result in MTT was shown in November 2009, when he won $81,030 for 4th place in an FTOPS series tournament with a $300+22 buy-in and rebuys on short tables.

In the same 2009, he won a tournament with a $150 buy-in, which brought him $17,606.11. In another such tournament, he was second, earning another $13,934.88. It will be interesting to see how high he can fly, having received such a powerful boost.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
