Massachusetts Takes Action Against Athlete Harassment from Bettors
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has proposed the 'Bet on Respect' initiative to address harassment and abuse of athletes and sports insiders. The initiative allows leagues, players’ associations, college athletic programs, and sports venues to report suspected harassment and share data about individuals involved.
MGC Chairman Jordan Maynard emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, 'Athletes, officials, and others associated with games being wagered on deserve to be free of intimidation during and surrounding competition.' The MGC will investigate individuals who harass athletes and may place them on the state’s involuntary exclusion list, which is typically reserved for those who violate gambling laws, commit tax fraud, or cheat at gambling.
The MGC has set up a new online portal for reporting suspected abuse of athletes. Once a report is received, the MGC will investigate and determine the appropriate course of action, which may include subpoenas to gather additional evidence. Individuals found guilty of abuse may be placed on the involuntary exclusion list and have 30 days to appeal the decision.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
