Maryland Man Wins $50K from $5 Scratch-Off, Wife Thinks He's Joking
A man from Rockville, Maryland, won $50,000 from a $5 scratch-off lottery ticket. The man bought the winning ticket at Wheaton Winery at 2211-B University Boulevard in Silver Spring. The man's wife initially thought he was joking when he told her about the win. The couple plans to set the winnings aside into savings.
The $5 Deluxe Crossword ticket offers prizes ranging from $5 to $50,000. The man prefers time-consuming and challenging scratch-offs, stating, "I only play two scratch-offs. Crosswords and bingo scratch-offs. I like the surprise of those games."
After matching eight words, the man won the top prize of $50,000. He immediately called his wife to share the good news, but she didn't believe him at first. The couple visited the Maryland Lottery headquarters to claim their prize, with the wife admitting, "I didn’t think it was real. I thought he was joking with me."

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
