WPT Champion Marley Wynter Accused of $30 Million Ponzi Scheme

Marley Wynter, the champion of last year’s WPT Australia SHR, is now facing serious accusations. Hundreds of sports betting investors, many of them poker players, have claimed that Wynter has failed to pay out profits on their investments and even failed to pay back the initial deposits.

Wynter, who won AUD$430,919 (US$287,164) at the WPT 20th Anniversary SHR at the Star Gold Coast casino last September, operates under Marley’s House of Sport (MHS) and Marley’s House of Investment (MHI). These businesses are now under investigation for a Ponzi scheme.

PokerMedia Australia reported that MHS is currently being investigated by Queensland Police Service’s Financial Crime Assessment Team and its Cybercrime unit, while official complaints have also been filed with Tasmania Police. The investigation follows claims that Wynter's scheme promised high returns but failed to deliver. Craig Abernethy, an Aussie poker pro, set up a Facebook group for those affected, titled Marleys House of Sport (formally Don't F*** With Poker Players).

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
