Man Jailed for £236,000 Bet365 Identity Scam: The Inside Story

Jon Howard, 40, was jailed for five years for his role in a £236,000 identity scam against Bet365. Howard was part of a syndicate that created more than 1000 online accounts to defraud Bet365. The scam involved impersonating others to access Bet365 services and build up bonuses. The criminal enterprise dated back as far as 2008 and involved over 1000 betting accounts.

Howard was convicted of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation at Basildon Crown Court. He was also found guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud against Santander, but was cleared of money laundering charges. His co-accused, Anna Nikolopoulos, was found not guilty of the same charges. Another co-defendant, Daniel Gorman, was cleared of money laundering but pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud against Santander.

Gorman was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, and must complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
