Former NBA Stars Malik Beasley and Ed Davis Indicted for Game-Fixing Scheme
Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis were indicted in a Brooklyn federal courtroom on Monday for crimes related to allegedly manipulating Beasley’s performances in NBA games. The indictment includes charges of wire fraud conspiracy, bribery in sporting contests, honest services wire fraud conspiracy, and money laundering conspiracy.
The investigation alleges that Beasley agreed with Davis to underperform or overperform in games to benefit the bettors involved in the scheme. Beasley allegedly received bribes in the form of reduced or paid-off gambling debts in return for fixing his performance. The defendants placed wagers totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars conditioned on Beasley’s fixed performance. Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, stated that his client would surrender to authorities and maintains his innocence.
This case comes amidst other gambling controversies involving the NBA, including the indictment of former NBA player Damon Jones and Miami Heat point guard Terry Rozier for a similar illegal sports betting operation. Additionally, former Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups was arrested for allegedly being part of rigged poker games run by New York organized crime.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
