Lucky Maine Resident Wins $1.35 Billion MegaMillions Jackpot on Friday the 13th
The jackpot was won on Friday, 13th October 2023, ending a 25-draw lean streak that had lasted for 3 months. The winning ticket was sold in Maine, at Hometown Gas & Grill in Lebanon. The winning numbers were 30, 43, 45, 46, 61 with the gold Mega Ball number 14.
The jackpot was the fourth largest lottery win in US history. The next MegaMillions grand prize stands at $20 million with the cash option totalling $10.7 million. The top two in the all-time lottery jackpot wins came in the Powerball multi-state lottery.
The owner of Hometown Gas & Grill, Fred Cotreau, initially thought a call from the lottery office was a scam. The winner's cash prize would be $724.6 million if they choose it over annual payments.
