Lika Gerasimova Makes History as Second Russian at WSOP 2009 Final Table
Lika Gerasimova made history as the second Russian to reach the final table at the WSOP 2009. Her journey began with a debut at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 2008, where everything was new and unfamiliar. She admitted to being distracted by poker stars like Daniel Negreanu and Annie Duke, which affected her gameplay.
In 2008, Gerasimova's best result was a 120th place finish in a $2,000 tournament. She also reached the final table in a small tournament at the Venetian and finished 13th and 16th in tournaments at the Bellagio. Her experience and strategy have evolved significantly since then.
At the WSOP 2009, Gerasimova played in a $5,000 tournament, where she employed a new strategy of mentally noting players who call on the river with a second pair or top pair without a kicker. This strategy helped her build a substantial stack. She also faced notable players like Brandon Cantu, Alek Torelli, Nenaad Medich, Mike Sauer, and Eric Seidel. Despite some challenges, Gerasimova's performance was impressive, and she enjoyed dining at Naked Fish, a popular poker player restaurant known for its sushi.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
