Poker Pro Lex Veldhuis to Face Bertrand Grospellier in Kickboxing Match
Poker pro Lex Veldhuis has announced an unexpected venture outside of the poker world. In a tweet on April 7, 2011, Veldhuis revealed that he will be participating in a kickboxing match against Bertrand Grospellier, also known as 'Elky'. The match is set to take place in late May, just before the World Series of Poker (WSOP) begins.
Veldhuis's interest in poker was sparked by Grospellier, who introduced him to online poker and even funded his initial bankroll. The two met during their Starcraft days, and Grospellier transferred $10 to Veldhuis's account to help him get started.
In preparation for the fight, Veldhuis updated his Twitter avatar to a picture of himself in boxing gear. The image garnered attention from fellow poker player Daniel Negreanu, who commented, 'Your avatar: you serious? I should be scared, but I can't stop laughing.' Veldhuis is also taking bets on the upcoming match and plans to write a detailed blog post about it soon.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
