Kelly Minkin Sparks Controversy with WSOP Re-Entry Move
Kelly Minkin, a well-known poker player, recently found herself at the center of a Twitter storm after unregistering from a WSOP event and later re-entering the same tournament. The incident gained traction when Adam Hendrix posted a tweet discussing the situation, which was later confirmed by Minkin herself.
Minkin's actions sparked debate among the poker community regarding the rules of tournament re-entry. Generally, once a player registers for a tournament and learns which other players will be at the initial table, they can unregister before play begins. However, re-registering at a later time to secure a more favorable draw of opponents is typically not allowed.
Minkin explained her reasons for withdrawing, citing discomfort playing at the same table as a certain person due to their history. High-stakes legend Brian Hastings weighed in, noting that the ruling sets a bad precedent if the floor can selectively allow such actions. Adam Hendrix later retracted his original statement after learning that Minkin did nothing wrong and that the WSOP floor had allowed her to re-enter the event.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
