Ka Kwan Lau Triumphs in EPT Barcelona €10,000 High Roller

Ka Kwan Lau won the EPT Barcelona €10,000 High Roller tournament for €910,400. The event attracted 475 entries to build a prize pool of €4,500,000. The top eight finishers walked away with six-figure scores.

Forty players lined up on the final day. Razvan Belea, winner of the Main Event in Paris earlier this year, had his UTG 11bb shove with pocket fives called by AJo and the jack turn ended his run. Patrik Antonius went with his second pair when getting short but found himself up against a set. Dominik Planka of Poland, who won this event in Deauville, France, almost a decade ago, lost a flip with pocket sixes against AJo when a jack came on the flop.

The final table was a vicious affair, with Ka Kwan Lau eliminating the final six players. The heads-up battle lasted a mere two hands as Lau had almost all of the chips by then, anyway. Ka Kwan Lau wasn’t even playing his favorite game. Ka Kwan Lau said, “This last day was insanely long. We returned with 40 players left on Day 3, which is a lot. So we knew it would be long if we were on the final table. But I didn’t expect it to be that long. I know it would be hard to reach the first place, as No-Limit Hold’em is not my main game. So I was not very confident when I played. But from the start of Day 1, everything was going very well. I had good situations, and I ran very well during the whole tournament.”
