The man, considered the leader of a large illegal gaming syndicate, was extradited from the UAE to South Korea.

He was recently handed over to prosecutors in the country.

According to investigation data, the illegal gaming operation generated nearly 20 million dollars in illegal revenue.

The suspect, according to police data, organized more than 1,400 illegal gaming sites in South Korea and worked with a group of co-authors from December 2013 to August 2017 and from April 2021 to December 2023.

The total value of the syndicate is estimated at 10.3 trillion won (about 6.9 billion dollars), and over the years of operation approximately 26 billion won (≈17.3 million dollars) in illegal revenue was obtained, of which the suspect, as alleged, received 6 billion won (over 4 million dollars).

After he hid in the Philippines and then moved to Cambodia and Malaysia, South Korea conducted a large-scale transnational investigation that led to his arrest.

Under Korean law, organizing a transnational illegal gaming business can be punished with up to five years imprisonment, financial sanctions, and additional charges such as tax evasion and asset forfeiture.
