Gus Hansen's Unlucky Start to the Year: Losing Streaks and RNG Complaints
Poker pro Gus Hansen has had a rough start to the year, with significant losses in various games and complaints about Full Tilt's random number generator (RNG).
In January, Hansen lost $1.2 million in Macau over three weeks. He initially planned to stay for just the weekend but ended up extending his trip. "I took a one-way ticket. I wanted to spend the weekend there, win a little money and come back. But I stayed for three weeks. I think I lost $1.2 million. Maybe offline poker is not for me? Although this is not much for Macau, where the buy-in is $500,000. But the game is good."
Hansen's struggles continued online, where he lost $1.4 million in a single day. After this loss, he decided to sit out if he lost 80 more big blinds. "I decided that if I lose 80 more, I will sit out," Hansen said. His opponent, Urindanger, responded with a laugh and a reminder that Hansen was playing on his own site. "This is your site, buddy!" Urindanger said. Hansen replied, "No, but it's hard to fight with it every time we play." Hansen also lost $540,000 to URnotINdanger2 over two days. "The last two days I played $200/$400 with urnotindanger2. Historically, it goes well for him against me, and these matches, unfortunately, were no exception. He is, of course, a strong player of HUNL, but he has weak spots. I am not perfect either, but I am sure that against him I have a significant advantage. Anyway, I lost 540k, so for some time you will not see me on these limits."

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
