Gus Hansen: The Poker Legend's Ups and Downs
Gus Hansen is renowned as the most losing player in the history of online poker, having lost a staggering $20,737,007 since 2007. Despite this, Hansen had a significant winning streak from mid-October 2010 to April 2011, where he won over $7.5 million, leading the profit rankings for that year. However, from the reopening of Full Tilt in late 2012 to the end of 2014, Hansen lost $17,530,274.
One of the most notable interactions involving Hansen was a conversation with Sebastian Rutenberg, where Hansen declared a bet of $13 million and $40k. Ilari Sahamies, another prominent player, often engaged in heated conversations with Hansen, frequently insulting him. Sahamies even attributed his poker success largely to playing against Hansen.
Hansen's career is also marked by unique experiences, such as playing a high-stakes PLO game with Phil Galfond on a misconfigured table named Super Gus. More recently, Hansen returned to Las Vegas in late October to play on the show Poker After Dark, showcasing his enduring presence in the poker community.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
