Flutter's Ian Proctor: Getting Gambling Affordability Right is Crucial
The Gambling Commission’s consultation on customer interaction, which includes proposals to set stricter affordability assessments for UK online punters, closed this week.
Ian Proctor, Chairman of Flutter UK & Ireland Division, believes getting affordability right in gambling is complex and requires finding a balance to protect the vulnerable without impinging on personal freedom. He proposes a risk-based approach to affordability, considering multiple data points including frequency of bets, deposits, personal circumstances, and changes in behavior.
Flutter's Affordability Triple-Step framework includes three layers of protection: setting spend limits at registration, real-time monitoring, and a spending backstop. This approach aims to protect the most vulnerable from potential harm while allowing the majority of customers to enjoy gambling responsibly.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
