February 2020 Poker News Roundup: Macao Closures, Big Wins, and New Regulations

February 2020 was a month of significant changes and exciting developments in the world of poker. The coronavirus outbreak led to the closure of casinos in Macao for two weeks due to the tenth confirmed case of viral pneumonia in the region.

In tournament news, Marco Biavaschi emerged victorious in the Main Event of 888poker Live Madrid. After an intense 16-hour session, Biavaschi defeated Daniyar Aubakirov to secure €150,000 and a package to the World Series of Poker (WSOP). David González finished third, earning €70,000, and Pablo Páez took fourth place with €45,000.

On the regulatory front, Juan Espinosa was confirmed as the head of the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), with the department transitioning from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Consumption. Additionally, partypoker introduced the 'King of the Hill' option to its cash heads-up tables, aiming to create a more enjoyable and fair environment for recreational players.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
