Educapoker and Poker-Red Face Taxation Uncertainty Under New Spanish Gaming Law
The Spanish Law 13/2011, approved on May 27, 2011, regulates online gaming and the issuance of licenses. This law has introduced significant changes to the online poker landscape, particularly in terms of taxation for players. Aureka Internet, the company behind Poker-Red and EducaPoker, sent a binding consultation to the tax authorities almost a year ago regarding the taxation of poker players. The consultation aimed to clarify the situation, as the current tax law interpretation could make online poker unsustainable.
The Director General of Gaming Regulation, Enrique Alejo, is aware of the taxation issue affecting poker players. Aureka Internet has been actively engaging with key figures in the industry to address this problem and ensure players have legal certainty. The company is committed to finding a solution and has initiated additional measures to support players.
Despite the challenges, Aureka Internet is resuming its activities and preparing to offer services and promotions in the new .es environment. The company is dedicated to providing a secure and transparent gaming experience for both amateur and professional poker players on its platforms, Poker-Red and EducaPoker.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
