Doyle Brunson, Poker Legend, Passes Away at 89
Doyle Brunson, the Godfather of Poker, has passed away at the age of 89. His death leaves an immense void in the poker community that can never be filled. Brunson was one of the key figures in the rise of poker in 1970, the year the first World Series of Poker (WSOP) was held.
Brunson won back-to-back WSOP Main Events in 1976 and 1977, securing four career WSOP titles by the end of the series. His total of 10 WSOP titles is a record only beaten by Phil Hellmuth in 2006, and ties with fellow greats Phil Ivey and Johnny Chan.
One of Brunson’s main contributions to poker was his iconic book Super System. This was the first published work that gave deep insight into what poker strategy entails for a variety of different games. It was updated in 2005 to keep up with the increased pace of strategy development and remains a classic still today.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
