Douglas Polk: Still the King of Heads-Up No-Limit Poker?

Douglas Polk, a renowned poker player, recently discussed his status as the best heads-up No-Limit player. He confidently asserts that he is the best and doubts anyone would dare to play against him. Polk mentions that Donk Kim, Jason Les, and carrycakes are part of his team, referred to as 'Polk's boys' by Swedish players.

Polk also recalls a high-stakes cash game in Vegas where he lost a quarter million dollars. The unusual hand involved two treff daem, which left him shocked. He explained that the situation was surreal, and the two treff daem seemed to explode his mind. The incident occurred during a live broadcast of the most expensive game, adding to the drama.

In another interesting anecdote, Polk discusses a bet with Andrew Robl about the number of Spanish words Robl knows. The bet led to a disagreement and a $5,000 loss for Polk. Polk recounted how Robl, despite having a Mexican girlfriend, struggled to name even 20 Spanish words. This incident highlighted Polk's frustration with Robl's behavior and led to a tense exchange between the two players.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
