David Benyamine: From Poker Pro to College Student

David Benyamine began his poker career in 2004, quickly rising through the limits and entering high-stakes games. His poker career peaked in 2009, when he was winning consistently and ready for high-stakes heads-up matches.

However, Benyamine decided to take a break from poker to focus on his education, studying political science and Chinese at Columbia University. He is currently in his final semester, having studied for 11 years due to multiple breaks.

Benyamine returned to poker in 2014, making it to the final table of the Main Event at the World Series of Poker. His friendship with Tom Dwan influenced his poker career, as they lived together and Dwan mentored him. Despite the challenges and changes in his life, Benyamine remains content with his decisions and looks forward to completing his education.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
