David Baazov Faces Insider Trading Charges: What Happens Next?

David Baazov, the CEO of Amaya Inc., is accused of insider trading by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) of Quebec. The investigation into Baazov began in 2014, following Amaya's acquisition of PokerStars.

Baazov denies the allegations and Amaya will continue to cooperate with the AMF. The AMF also conducted searches at the offices of Manulife Financial and Canaccord Genuity.

Baazov faces up to five years in prison and fines ranging from $5,000 to $5 million for each charge. The investigation is ongoing, and the impact on PokerStars remains to be seen.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
