WPT500 Winner David Afework Loses $160,000 Prize to Account Sharing Accusations
David Afework won the WPT500 tournament on partypoker with 2,088 registrations and initially received $160,000. However, his victory was short-lived as partypoker accused him of sharing his account with a third party and confiscated his winnings.
Afework created a thread on the 2+2 forum titled 'WPT500 Event 24 Winner Disqualified – Help Me,' where he detailed his side of the story. He claimed he played the tournament alone from his own account on his Dell notebook and that his girlfriend, who knows nothing about poker, was the only other person present. He also mentioned living with a friend who also plays poker, suggesting a possible IP address overlap.
partypoker confirmed the disqualification and redistribution of prize money to other players. Hennig Andre was declared the new winner of the WPT500 tournament. David Afework's actions during the final were deemed unprofessional by some 2+2 forum users, while others supported the room's decision. Despite his efforts to clear his name, Afework's chances of proving his innocence and recovering his winnings remain low.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
