Daniel Negreanu Faces Backlash Over WSOP Event Structure Change
Daniel Negreanu has found himself at the center of controversy after contacting WSOP Vice President Jack Effel via text message during the $50,000 PLO WSOP tournament. The change in event structure, which occurred during level 15, has sparked criticism from players like Chance Kornuth.
Kornuth tweeted that it was unacceptable for any player to have the structure changed via a text message to Jack Effel. He raised concerns about potential abuse of power, stating that players could exploit this for personal gain. Kornuth himself admitted to benefiting from the switch but still disagreed with the decision.
Negreanu, however, claims he only sent the text message to clarify what was going to happen, not to ask for any particular outcome. He denied accusations of bragging about the change and stated that the decision was based on the field size, not personal requests. Despite Negreanu's clarification, the incident has highlighted broader issues within the poker community, including accusations of shady behavior from other players like Kornuth.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
