Daniel Negreanu's Rollercoaster Year: Tournaments and Hacking Scares
Daniel Negreanu kicked off the year with a strong performance, securing 5th place in a super high roller tournament on the Bahamas. He also enjoyed his time at the PCA, describing it as one of his best trips there. The excitement led him to participate in the Aussie Millions tournament in Melbourne, a city he found charming.
Negreanu played in a $100k tournament where each move was limited to 30 seconds, a format he found refreshing given the tendency of younger players to take excessive time for their decisions. Despite his strategic play, Negreanu faced a series of bad beats and coolers, which ultimately led to his early exit from the tournament. He also participated in the main event, where he made a notable mistake in a key hand, playing aggressively with Qx Qx against Ax Ax on the preflop.
In a $250k tournament, Negreanu found himself in a tough spot against Phil Ivey, Patrick Antonius, and Gus Hansen. Despite being the chip leader with five players left, he struggled to get decent hands and saw his chip stack dwindle. A crucial moment came when he went all-in with Ax 8x against Patrick Antonius's Jx Jx, resulting in his elimination from the tournament. The next day, Negreanu attended the Aussie Open final with friends, enjoying the intense tennis match despite the presence of Antonius, who had eliminated him from the tournament.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
