Daniel Cates on Poker: More Than Just a Game

Daniel Cates, a renowned poker player, shares his thoughts on the value and future of poker. He started playing poker driven by a desire for freedom, fear of regular work, and a love for the game. However, as he delved deeper into the world of poker, he realized that success in poker involves more than just winning money; it includes personal growth and the development of valuable skills.

Cates believes that poker, like other games, can be a foundation for personal and social development. It teaches critical thinking, risk management, resilience, and the ability to adapt. These skills are not only beneficial in poker but also in various aspects of life.

One of the unique aspects of poker, according to Cates, is its ability to foster social mobility. The poker table brings together people from different backgrounds, creating opportunities for interaction and learning. Successful poker players like Phil Galfond, Doug Polk, and Liv Boeree have used their poker skills to achieve success in business and philanthropy, demonstrating the broader impact of the game.
