Dan Haymiller's Rollercoaster Poker Career: From Taxi Driver to WSOP Champion
Dan Haymiller's poker career is a tale of ups and downs. In 2014, he cashed 26 times in tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $130 to $10,000. One of his notable achievements was winning a bracelet at the 2014 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Seniors Event, earning $627,462. He also finished third in the 8-Game event at the 2014 WSOP, earning $66,246.
Haymiller's introduction to poker came from an unexpected source: his grandmother. She taught him to play pinochle and bridge, sparking his interest in card games. This early exposure led him to move to Las Vegas, where he started working as a taxi driver after learning about poker. His journey in the poker world has been tumultuous, with more than 20 bankruptcies often due to gambling losses and poor financial management.
Despite these challenges, Haymiller has had significant successes. He has won over 30 online tournaments, including a WCOOP event, and has six victories in $11 rebuy tournaments. Since 2008, he has won seven figures in tournament winnings seven times, with his most recent major win being second place in the WPT Legends of Poker in September 2013, earning $356,115.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
